In Favro, teams and managers can easily plan, prioritize and overview the progress of ongoing work in the backlog. The backlog tree view allows you to arrange cards in a hierarchy in order to better illustrate relationships to larger goals and breakdown bigger tasks into smaller ones.

By keeping upcoming tasks in a backlog, you can better visualize the flow of work in customizable team boards.

Plan and prioritize work using the backlog hierarchy

The secret behind successfully working in a backlog is to keep it short and prioritized. Cards can be prioritized by dragging them to the top of the backlog. That way the team members can easily see what need to be worked on next and pull cards to their work board when they have capacity.

Work is organized into parent and child items, where the "children" are your workable items. Drag and drop to move cards around or create parent/child relations by using these keyboard shortcuts to indent and outdent cards:

  • Indent: Tab

  • Outdent: Shift + Tab

You can also select multiple cards to group them under a new parent card.

Card fields can be displayed as columns. By showing columns you are able to get information directly from the card, such as how many items have been completed in a checklist.

To add more columns, click on the plus sign and either create a new column or add one from an existing shared field. To add an existing shared field choose "Type" and "Browse shared fields".

Track the status of ongoing work

When pulling work to your team board, the recommendation is to set "keep" card as the default drag card action. The keep function will add the card to both places when moving it to another backlog or board. You can read more about adding and moving cards here.

If you choose to show the "Boards" column in the backlog, everyone on the team can easily track the status of all cards since the card relations will be shown here.

To add the "Boards" column in the backlog, simply add a custom field, and choose ''Relations'' option.

The card will be pulled through the board until it is completed and reaches the rightmost column, typically the "Done" column. A common practice is to now archive the card both on the board and in the backlog to keep everything tidy.

If you quickly want to edit a card, add more details, or archive it you can easily do this directly from the backlog.

As you can see, the backlog in Favro is extremely powerful when it comes to planning and tracking work. To learn more about how backlogs and boards work together, we recommend reading the article Make work flow with team boards.
