Before moving forward get acquainted with the difference between columns and shared fields.
Shared card fields give you unlimited possibilities. Using text fields, teams and managers can add additional details that are visible in different boards, and searchable in filters and dashboards. When you have more than one team, you have more than one way of estimating. With Favro's shared fields, teams can estimate in points, hours, days, or whatever other format suits them.
While the default Favro cards are very flexible, sometimes you need more. By opening a card and clicking Add field, you can create your own shared field to calculate costs, link out, add contact details, and much more. You can add as many shared fields as you want, containing any and all information you need. You can display these shared fields in both board and card view without limits on how many fields you can show.
Sharing & Permissions
Shared fields are "global" (meaning they can be local or global). This means you can create shared fields per board instead of organization-wide (or vice versa). With the Sharing & Permissions setting, you can decide if you want the field to be visible and usable for only one collection, a whole organization, or selected collections. Note, though, that only administrators can set the option for "Entire organization".
With the Pin to option, you can decide if you want the shared field to be visible on the board, on the selected collection boards or everywhere in the organization. Note, though, that only administrators can set the option for Everywhere in the organization.
To show a shared field on the board view, you must go to the eye icon > your shared field. Note though that only a pinned field will show up in this list or the shared fields that were added to the board.
Types of fields
While text fields are simple single-line text input fields, numerical fields can have any unit added to them, and they can aggregate (in lists and boards) in a number of ways:
Sum
Average
Minimum
Maximum
When using numerical fields, these of course work together with burndowns and other features as they have the same logic as estimation fields.
Now that your cards are set up exactly as you want them, you might want to review the different ways you can customize your work boards.
