Before moving forward get acquainted with the difference between columns and custom fields.
Custom card fields give you unlimited possibilities. Using text fields, teams and managers can add additional details that are visible in lists, and searchable in filters and reports. When you have more than one team, you have more than one way of estimating. With Favro's custom numeric card fields, teams can estimate in points, hours, days, or whatever other format suits them.
While the default Favro cards are very flexible, sometimes you need more. By opening a card and clicking Add field you can create your own custom field for calculating costs, linking out, adding contact details, and much more. You can add as many custom fields as you want, containing any and all information you need. You can display these custom fields in both board and card view with no limits on how many fields you can show.
Pin to board, collection or organization
Custom fields are "glocal" (meaning they can be local or global). This means you can create custom fields per board instead of organization-wide (or vice versa). With the option to pin a field you can decide if you want the custom field to be local to your board, the collection you are in, or the entire organization.
To show a custom field on the board view you must go to the eye icon > your custom field. Note though that only a pinned field will show up in this list.
With the option "Visible in..." you can decide for which collections the field can be used in, or if you want it to be for the whole organization. Note though that only administrators can set the option for "Entire organization".
Types of fields
While text fields are simple single-line text input fields, numerical fields can have any unit added to them, and they can aggregate (in lists and boards) in a number of ways:
When using numerical fields, these of course work together with burndowns and other features as they have the same logic as estimation fields.
Now that your cards are set up exactly as you want them, you might want to review the different ways you can customize your work boards.
